The Paramount+ Fatal Attraction reboot is on its way and we have a look at the upcoming take on the erotic thriller classic.
The upcoming Paramount+ series that reimagines the thriller Fatal Attraction just announced more of its cast list. Alyssa Jirrels, Toby Huss, Reno Wilson, and Brian Goodman join the originally announced Lizzy Caplan, Joshua Jackson, and Amanda Peet. Check out the Tweet about the news below:
Alyssa Jirrels is playing the role of Ellen Gallagher, the daughter of Dan (Joshua Jackson) and Beth (Amanda Peet). Toby Huss will be playing Mike Gerard, the chief of investigation for the District Attorney. Gerard is a long-loyal friend to the deputy of the DA, Dan Gallagher. Reno Wilson will be playing Detective Earl Booker, a member of the Los Angeles Police Department with a big personality. Brian Goodman plays Arthur Tomlinson who is Beth Gallagher’s best friend and business partner. The Fatal Attraction reimagining comes to us from Alexandra Cunningham from a story she co-wrote with Kevin J. Hynes.
The Fatal Attraction reimagining will explore marriage and infidelity through a modern lens, exploring the perspectives of strong women and touching on concepts like personality disorders and coercive control. Alexandra Cunningham will be the showrunner and executive producer with Kevin J. Hynes. Amblin Television presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey also executive produce.
Fatal Attraction was a 1987 psychosexual thriller that starred Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, and Anne Archer. It followed Douglas’s character who had a weekend affair with a woman who becomes obsessed with him and won’t let him end things. Though controversial at the time, the movie received good reviews and was a surprisingly huge box office success. The movie only had a $14 million budget and it grossed $320.1 million worldwide. It actually became the highest-grossing film worldwide in 1987 and it ended up nabbing six nominations at the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. Adrian Lyne directed with a screenplay by James Dearden.
Michael Douglas played Dan Gallagher in the original Fatal Attraction as a successful Manhattan lawyer who has an affair with Alex Forrest, the editor for a publishing company. Joshua Jackson is playing Dan Gallagher in this adaptation, with Lizzy Caplan playing the Alex Forrest role. Amanda Peet will be playing the Glenn Close role as Beth. It will be interesting to see how closely this version sticks to the original. As a TV series, it will undoubtedly give us more perspectives than the movie, which mostly told the story through the lens of Michael Douglas’s character. Judging by the synopsis, it seems like we’ll get more insight into the motivations of Lizzy Caplan and Amanda Peet’s characters. It doesn’t seem like the show will be a direct adaptation, but the same ideas will certainly be there judging by the fact that they kept the characters the same.
There isn’t a release date currently set for the upcoming Fatal Attraction series, but we’ll likely get more news as development gets further along. The show is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Amblin Television. You’ll be able to check it out when it starts streaming on Paramount+.
