Pokémon GO is celebrating its 8th anniversary, with a six day long party starting Friday June 28th, at 10:00am local time, running through to July 3rd, at 8:00pm local time. Two new costumed Pokémon will make their debut in this event, with Grimer wearing a party hat and Muk wearing a party hat both making their Pokémon GO debuts during this event.

Alongside this event on Saturday June 29th, Mega Rayquaza will be appearing in a series of special Elite Raids.

Event Bonuses and Activities
The following bonuses will be active throughout the event period:

PokéStop Showcases for event-themed Pokémon will also be running throughout the event period at different PokéStops.

Trainers who purchase the Whispers in the Woods Masterwork Research story (see below), or have previously received the Distracted by Something Shiny Special Research story (either active or completed) can also enjoy the following bonuses for the duration of the 8th Anniversary Party event:

Free Timed and Field Research
Event-themed Timed Research will be available throughout the event. Complete them to earn XP, Stardust, and encounters with event-themed Pokémon such as Raticate wearing a party hat, Nidorino wearing a party hat, Wobbuffet wearing a party hat, Meltan, and more.

Additional free Timed Research will be available on June 29th only for the Mega Rayquaza Elite Raids. Completing these research tasks will award Trainers with a Meteorite. This item is required to teach Rayquaza the Charged Attack Dragon Ascent, which is required for it to Mega Evolve.

Anniversary-themed Field Research tasks will also be available as part of this 8th Anniversary event. Completing these Field Research tasks will award Trainers with encounters with various first-partner Pokémon (see below). Select Field Research tasks will award Mega Energy for the following Pokémon:

Paid Timed Research
Until July 3rd, at 8:00pm local time, trainers will be able to purchase event-exclusive Timed Research for US$2.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency). Completing this Timed Research will award Trainers with the following:
The tasks associated with this Timed Research must be completed, and their rewards must be claimed, before July 3rd, at 8:00pm local time. This Timed Research can also be gifted to any friend with a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher.

Masterwork Research: Whispers in the Woods
Until July 3rd at 8:00pm local time, Trainers can spend $5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency) to receive a ticket granting access to this special Masterwork Research story, which leads to an encounter with a Shiny Celebi. Shiny Celebi originally appeared in Pokémon GO in the Distracted by Something Shiny Special Research story, Trainers who have completed this Special Research story before will not be able to purchase this latest Masterwork Research story.

Once purchased, ticket holders will need to log in during the period of the 8th Anniversary Party event, between June 28th, at 10:00am and July 3rd, at 8:00pm local time, to actually receive the Masterwork Research. Once received, Trainers will then have an unlimited amount of time to complete the Masterwork Research. This Masterwork Research cannot be gifted to other Trainers.
